I've been getting high res images & pdf files from galleries, artists & pr agencies, so I'm reposting this,

'Pl send me information on events and updates in jpg or bmp format (low res), which are easier to upload on the blog. Pdf files are great if they are just for keeping me informed, but do send another low res jpg file for uploading'.

Also, please understand that it is often not possible to put up all event information which is sent to me for various reasons - I might be travelling, could be busy with something else or simply because the file requires too much formatting.

Recently, there have been several queries regarding how to contact galleries, looking for feedback on art, career guidance and so on. Again, I have to say that it is difficult to respond to each query individually, but I will try to upload responses on the blog itself. Meanwhile, pl mention in the mail if you are comfortable having your question posted on the blog. If not, pl mention that too.

FICA PUBLIC ART GRANT 2011

The Foundation for Indian Contemporary Art invites applications for Public Art Grant 2011.

The Grant is aimed at supporting artists interested in working in the public realm. We welcome proposals for projects with the specific intention of being sited or staged in the public domain. The project can be environmentally focused, community-based, or deal with critical issues related to the visual arts and the public. Through the grant, FICA aims to generate interest in public art projects in India, and mutually engage and initiate an open debate among artists, local communities and the public to look at shared environments in different ways.

The winning proposal will be selected by a distinguished panel of judges. The recipient of the grant will receive a maximum of Rs. 3 lakhs for the project detailed in their application. The period of the grant is one year, starting from 01 January 2012. The artist will be required to document the project and submit the documentation and a report to FICA. The application deadline is September 1, 2011.

EXPERIMENTA – the international festival for moving image art in
India, seeks artists’ films and videos from any country that challenge
popular and conventional modes of cinema. Abstract to obscure
compositions produced on the margins of contemporary screen-culture
are welcome. Innovative, cutting edge and non-traditional work that
attempts to aesthetically extend the parameters of the mediums of film
and video is encouraged.

Preview copies must be submitted for selection purposes. All lengths
of film are considered. Please submit entries as soon as possible. The
final deadline for receipt of submissions in 10th September 2011. The
festival programme will be finalised by October 2011, at which time
only those whose works are selected will be informed.

EXPERIMENTA is a curated film festival, and will be held in Bangalore

Investing in art needs some research

With reports in the media focusing primarily on the merits of investing in art and making it appear as an attractive option for all investors, it raises a lot of questions for investors who are attracted to art as a financial investment instrument. Art can undoubtedly give huge returns in the long term, but there are many layers to it, which may not be immediately evident to nouveau buyers, but are nevertheless present and hence require a healthy understanding of the workings of the art market.

It is important to consider various aspects related to investing in art for instance, the risks associated with it, its liquidity and also how it fares against other investment assets. It is inadvisable to consider art from a purely financial investment angle; after all, it is one of the few (such as antiques and collectibles) options which has a ‘decorative’ side to it. It would therefore be rather inappropriate and superfluous to override the aesthetics and visual content of art.

One should consider investing in art only after allocating funds to conventional assets such as stocks, real estate and gold. Also, consider art as a long-term proposition and keep in mind that it may take some time to sell it off when necessary.

Most people who have made a lot of money through art are those who bought works at low prices by artists who would have then gone on to establish themselves in a big way later on. However, it is important to realize that not every artwork will appreciate considerably in the future - prices are likely to increase with time corresponding with the artist’s career but not all will show a significant change or a dramatic graph. This implies that the element of risk is probably high when buying artworks priced in the lower bracket range. Art which is priced higher and is done by established artists is a safer option in terms of investment, but requires a larger outlay from your part. It is also essential that as a buyer or investor you have some knowledge of art and understand the dynamics of the market to an extent.

Toto Funds the Arts (TFA) invites submissions for its 2012 annual arts awards for young musicians/bands, writers and photographers.. There are six awards to be won — one for music (Rs 50,000), two for photography (Rs 25,000 each), two for creative writing in English (Rs 25,000 each) and one for creative writing in Kannada (Rs 25,000). The photography awards are being made in partnership with TASVEER and the writing awards (English) are being supported by Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions

Toto Funds the Arts was founded in 2004, in memory of Angirus ‘Toto’ Vellani who was intensely passionate about music, literature, films and the arts. Toto’s untimely demise spurred his family and friends to create a non-profit foundation that would encourage the young to give expression to their artistic ideas. The annual Toto awards are intended to recognise excellence in the fields of photography, music and creative writing.

All submissions must be original and must be received before 10 September 2011 (the last date for Kannada writing applications is 15 October 2011). Young persons from all over India between the ages of 18 and 29 are eligible to apply. The Kali Kamai project by Wanphrang Diengdoh received the FICA Public Art Grant 2009.

The project has been in progress for a year now and will now take to the streets of Shillong to engage with the public. The Khasi term Kali Kamai translates as taxi or more literally as a ‘car for earning’, and is the popular local mode of transport in Shillong, Meghalaya where the project is located. The project involves the alteration of the local share-taxi making it into a mobile-site to firstly, study the relationships between the individual and the city, and secondly, address the city’s history of conflict and prevalent undercurrents of racial tension. The artist views the Kali Kamai as a one of the few truly public spaces in the city where ‘the fine lines of race are blurred and will use this site to interface with the public through interactive audio-visual installations and one-on-one conversations.

The Kali Kamai has been conceptualised and designed as a contemporary reflection on popular folktales that still exist in the oral tradition in the region. On each side of the vehicle we see painted the various narratives refering to Khasi folktale using contemporary references. The bulk of oral culture is still sustained by the people commuting in these public vehicles, though not direclty retold they emerge through reference and conversations that take place here, a space that Diengdoh has tuned into and has been documenting in the last year. To him this is the space where the links to histories, both personal and the community's, can be found. The documented material will be presented in the Kali Kamai on a touch screen, urging the passengers to explore and exchange stories during their journey across the city.

Wanphrang K. Diengdoh has a BA in Mass Communication from St. Antony’s College, Shillong and MA Mass Communication from MCRC, Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi. He is an independent photographer, has directed and edited a few short films and as a musician is part of Stitch, a Delhi-based rock band. His 36-minute short fiction film, “19/87”, made with Dondor Lyngdoh, won the best film, best cinematography and best screenplay in the competition section at the first Guwahati International Short Film Festival (GISFF), 2011.

Buying art as an investment option

Now that the recession is considered to be behind us, people are once again looking at various investment options. Real estate, gold and the stock markets are taking precedence as investment avenues. Many are investing in their dream homes and are willing to spend anything between Rs 50 lakhs to Rs 1.5 crores, while others are buying their second or even third houses. There are people keen on doing up their homes to the best of their ability and are willing to spend substantial amounts on the interiors. As part of this process, homeowners are increasingly considering original artworks as an essential element of decor.

It is noticed that in such cases the prime focus is on purchasing a work of art which fits in well with the space and the interiors, rather than be driven by a purely investment motive. Although, this is a positive trend and must be encouraged, what would work better is if the buyers choose art with a right amount of emphasis on aesthetics , and at the same time consider a few points, which can contribute towards building up an art portfolio in the long run.

While buying art, you can consciously opt for original artworks (instead of reproductions or prints) by emerging artists, students or established names depending on the budget available. Drawings, limited edition prints such as etchings or serigraphs, watercolours and photographs are some of the options which are priced lower than oils and acrylics on canvas . Canvas works by students and young artists are also likely to be more affordable in comparison to paper works by senior artists.

Most people tend to buy art according to specific colour themes or motifs in an effort to coordinate with the existing decor, but this may not always be the right approach to adopt. When buying, the emphasis should always be on the quality of the artwork, while keeping other aspects in mind.

Lucinda Hawksley talks about her latest book "50 British Artists You Should Know" and looks at the course of British art, beginning with artists whose careers flourished under the reign of the great artistic patron Queen Elizabeth I through to artists who are working today, under Queen Elizabeth II. The talk will focus particularly on art from the 18th and 19th centuries, a time when England and India were inextricably linked.

Lucinda Hawksley is a regular lecturer at the National Portrait Gallery in London. She is an expert in art from the 19th and early 20th centuries, and the author of the critically acclaimed biographies "Lizzie Siddal, The Tragedy of a Pre-Raphaelite Supermodel" and "Katey, The Life and Loves of Dickens's Artist Daughter". Lucinda's newest book "50 British Artists You Should Know was published in April 2011". In October 2011, the publication of another new book will take place, it will celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of Charles Dickens, who is Lucinda's great great great grandfather.

An art collection can be a viable investment option

Building an art collection can be a rewarding experience, both aesthetically and as a viable investment option . It is important to realise that significant collections are not built overnight, but tend to evolve over a period of time. Very often, they are driven by the collector's tastes and preferences, especially in the initial stages. However, later on, they may evolve and get refined further due to a conscious effort.

One may decide to collect works from a certain period, school or region. He may decide to focus on one aspect or may opt to diversify and collect representative works that cover more elements. As a result, most art collections are highly indicative of the buyer's choices. This is especially true in the case of collections built by individuals .

A corporate art collection or one owned by a museum is likely to have a different approach altogether, more so in the case of the latter. Incidentally, there are a few banks, who own some of the finest art collections in the world. For corporates, hotels and institutions it makes a lot of sense to collect art as it can grow into something significant with time and become a source of joy and pride.

When storage becomes a problem most people prefer to build a separate space to display the works. And, it can be seen that when most individual collections evolve to an extent they may requires a s u b s t a n - tial amount of space and effort to house and display them. Very often, these spaces are then opened to public for viewing. In India, a large number of art collections are privatelyowned and many of them have been converted later on into museums that allow public access.
When collecting art, it is important to periodically review the artworks and see if some of them need to be sold off to either make space for new works or in order to build a more coherent compilation.

The Award seeks to promote young artists studying or practicing in India who demonstrate extraordinary skill and promise in the visual arts. Selected by an independent jury of distinguished artists and professionals in the field, the recipient gets the opportunity to travel and work in an international residency and exhibit in a solo show in India.

FICA is pleased to be collaborating with Pro Helvetia-Swiss Art Council, New Delhi, Ms. Shalini Passi, New Delhi and Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi, for the Emerging Artist Award 2011.

The award includes:
• A twelve-week residency in Switzerland, round trip air travel from Mumbai or Delhi, a per diem during the time of the residency, and access to the residency’s technical equipments.
• A solo exhibition at the Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi.

Most people who have enviable art collections are those who began collecting randomly and often just by chance. Most of them began collecting in the sixties and the seventies when collecting art was not in fashion and it definitely had not become a fad then. Buying art for the sake of financial investment was completely unheard of; nobody could imagine that one day these works of art would appreciate to the extent that they have.

These were then a few scattered individuals who bought art out of a passion for it and that too at very reasonable rates. It was not uncommon in those days to buy art for a few hundred rupees to a couple of thousand. Although, these amounts were considered to be exorbitant for those days, but when we look back, we can only marvel and feel nostalgic. Today it is unlikely that you could buy a work of art for anything less than Rs 10,000.

Collecting art is quite different from investing in art, although both can become synonymous with each other. The advantage with building an art collection is that one passionately buys only those pieces, which engages him or her, and over a period of time the collection can become quite significant and valuable both in terms of its monetary worth and its historical value. On the other hand, people who look at art purely from an investment angle tend to look at things very clinically, still it is quite possible that they too amass a significant body of work over a period of time if they retain it and not tried to sell artworks frequently.

As collectors believe in holding on to their works for longer durations, their collections grow much more as a financial investment even though that may not have been the primary objective. Most collectors are wealthy and have the capacity to tide through recessional times and they remain largely unaffected from the ups and downs of financial markets. This is a major advantage that they have, which normally other investors may lack and which is why it is important to consider art as an asset class only when one is diversifying their investment portfolio. On the whole, for those who can afford to, collecting art can be extremely rewarding in more ways than one.

A series of three lectures, comprising moments of art historical impact, that look at trends and developments in the West. These lectures consider various art historical movements such as Minimalism, Conceptualism, Pop Art, Performance, Fluxus, Feminism, Land Art, Neo-Expressionism, Young British Artists (YBA), and look at recent trends in Internet art, and art in Asia, such as Chinese and Indian art. The focus of the lectures will be a historical overview which will provide a broad understanding of major movements while looking at such developments through an Indian lens.

Dr. Rakhee Balaram holds two doctorates, in French Literature and Art History, from Cambridge University and the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. A specialist in modern and contemporary art, she has contributed to various publications on twentieth-century art and literature including Vivan Sundaram’s Amrita Sher Gil: A Self Portrait in Letters & Writing (Tulika 2010). She is currently a visiting professor at the School of Arts & Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

As is widely evident, photography as a medium of expression has grown in popularity over the last few years, and has become a highly collectible item. Initially, most people looked at photographs as an affordable option and as an alternate to conventional art forms.

However, the prices of photographs have risen consistently over the years. Still, due to multiples, prices of photographs are comparatively lower than conventional art such as paintings.

During this year's art summit too there was ample emphasis on photographs, with dedicated galleries showing their works. Overall too, the number of exhibitions , photographers and the range of work that is being displayed have expanded tremendously, which augurs well for the collector or buyer.

It does, however, become difficult for buyers to assess whether to invest in photographs or not. In the conventional art market, not every painting or sculpture can provide financial returns, and the same holds true in the case of photographs. There are numerous exhibitions now by both established photographers and budding ones. Therefore, one must put in an effort to understand more, to be able to assess good quality works and in general to get familiar with the medium.

What makes this field particularly interesting is that there is a whole spectrum of photographic works on display . Photojournalists, fine art photographers, conceptual artists, they are all producing some exceptional works and although this is exciting for the viewer and the market, it can be a little confusing for first-time buyers .

Photojournalists, fine art photographers, conceptual artists, they are all producing some exceptional works and although this is exciting for the viewer and the market, it can be a little confusing for first-time buyers .

It is imperative therefore that one gets familiar with the scene completely before buying. You could begin by looking at works of established photographers to understand the finer nuances of the medium. As always, it is important to buy from galleries of repute and to check the edition size of the photograph.

Innovations in art: Mixed media paintings growing popular

These days, many artists are moving away from traditional media such as oil and acrylic on canvas or watercolours, and are experimenting and innovating with various materials. Mixed media paintings or installations have become the in-thing and are increasingly growing in popularity. These are exciting to view and often feature creative uses of different materials to present the concept.

However, for the buyer, it is important to verify or at least be aware of the materials, which have been used as part of the artwork. This will give an idea as to whether these will maintain status quo, or if there is a probability that one or more of the materials could decompose, decay or rust, change colour or texture due to oxidation or reduction based on environmental conditions.

While some of these changes may be desirable (adding interesting dimensions to texture or patina), those that affect the monetary worth of the artwork could be unwelcome. In fact, there might be instances where one may not be able to foresee some of the changes that may happen in the future. Over the years, a lot of research has taken place to improve the quality of paints, pigments and canvases to ensure that they are longer lasting.

But when artists use 'different' and new materials, which are not as common in artworks, there has to be a conscious effort made towards ensuring the longevity of the product. This could be done either by treating these materials appropriately or by substituting them with similar but hardier materials. Therefore, while it might be exciting to view artworks made out of interesting materials, as a buyer, one needs to be aware of their condition and expected lifespan.

Fortunately, just as many painters have adopted the use of finest quality materials in their paintings, most new media artists too put in a lot of effort in using the best quality materials. Still, as a buyer, there is no harm in being aware and then taking an informed decision.

About the lecture :

Artist Atul Dodiya’s talk will be about the diverse influences, references and quotations in his work; why he chooses a specific genre; shifts and change in the media that he uses, and the ways in which he addresses the political, social and personal traumas within his painterly practice.

About the speaker : Atul Dodiya

Atul Dodiya (b. 1959 ) studied at the Sir J J School of Art, Mumbai and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris.

Dodiya’s allegorical paintings on canvas, paper and metal shutters draw on diverse traditions in painting and text. He works with unusual materials and techniques and brings to the viewer a palimpsest of images and a collage of experiences. Dodiya’s art is marked by kaleidoscopic quotation and his pictorial narratives are taken from iconic images from global visual culture- cinema stills, cartoon strips, popular oleographs, the homegrown version of MAD comics-all intertwined with autobiography. His intricate and multi-layered pictures work like a jigsaw of ideas that have been put together with humour and irony.

Atul Dodiya has had 25 solo shows in India and abroad, and this includes a mid-career retrospective at Japan Foundation Asia Centre, Tokyo in 2001 and a solo show in Reina Sofia Museum, Madrid in 2002. Dodiya participated in the 1st Yokohoma Triennale, 51st Venice Biennale, Documenta 12, 7th Gwangju Biennale & the 3rd Moscow Biennale. Dodiya lives and works in Bombay, India

Practices in Contemporary Art & Architecture Lecture Series has been initiated by CoLab Art & Architecture, Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, Bangalore in collaboration with the Venkatappa Art Gallery, Bangalore. Spread over a year with one lecture a month, the visual art series focuses on practitioners who look at both ‘reconstruction’ and the ‘historical turn’ from the perspective of contemporary artistic practice: the revisions and re-readings that take place when images, works or events from the past circulate in a changing set of configurations ; the lectures on architecture will attempt to look at the radical shift in the imagining of the public space and the notion of spatial equity, and the questions thus raised.

Nature Morte is pleased to present an exhibition of new sculptures by L.N. Tallur. The title ironically situates the artist’s practice within the intersections of desire, value, pedigree and psychology. Known for his kinetic sculptures which often comment on society and politics, the work of L.N. Tallur combines a sharp wit along with a prodigious use of materials.

Many of the works in the exhibition use the classical sculpture of India as their starting points. These “found objects” are then combined and manipulated, confounding the established categorizations with which we usually interpret art: figuration and abstraction, traditional and contemporary, decorative and functional, creative and destructive, religious and secular. It is as if each work is both and neither at the same time. Tallur’s works may appear quintessentially “Indian” at first, but they certainly participate in the most advanced dialogues surrounding sculpture today and reveal themselves to be both cosmopolitan and historically astute.

L.N. Tallur was born in 1971 in the south Indian state of Karnataka. He received a BFA degree in painting from the Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts in Mysore in 1996, an MFA degree in museology from the MS University in Baroda in 1998, and an MA in Fine Art from the Metropolitan University in Leeds, UK, in 2002. Solo shows of his works have been mounted at Arario Gallery, Beijing (2010); Chemould Prescott Road, Mumbai (2009); Arario Gallery, New York (2008); Arario Gallery, Seoul (2007); Bose Pacia, New York (2000); and Chemould Gallery, Mumbai (1999). In addition to receiving the Sanskriti Award from the Sanskriti Foundation of New Delhi in 2003 and having his works included in many group exhibitions around the world, Tallur’s large-scale installation entitled “Souvenir Maker” was recently exhibited at the Devi Foundation in Gurgaon and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Singapore. The artist currently divides his time between India and South Korea.

A discussion on the intersection of Art, Ecology and Science by Biologist & Physicist Dr. Mukund Thattai and Philosopher & Physicist Dr. Sundar Sarukkai with the resident artists at KHOJ, Heather Ackroyd & Dan Harvey, Navin Thomas, Brandon Ballengee and Pratik Sagar, moderated by the critic in residence, Jyoti Dhar.

The convergence of the worlds of art and science is creating a new niche of cultural experimentation. In both popular and scientific culture, the ascendency of biology and its success in spreading knowledge and visual information about other species has stimulated attention. More recently, global warming and international ecological crises have urgently focused our attention on our relationship with other species.

Reflecting these larger social interests artists have begun to focus on such subjects. By transcending disciplinary boundaries this intersection hopes to bridge the gap and break down the language barrier between art and science addressed through a combination of artistic intervention, critical theorizing, and reflective practices, opening up a world of possibilities and creative ideas emerging from current developments in technology and scientific research .

The In Context:public.art.ecology residency in its second phase will investigate and explore sites of science pursued through its diverse projects ranging from creating living ecosystems for insects, an organic grass photosynthesis photograph, an interactive bird habitat, an insect attracting eco- habitat; all within the broader framework of ecology and science rooted in todays’s cultural and philosophical context.

For those who are looking at buying art, it is important to tread cautiously at this point in time and do a thorough background check before investing large sums of money in it. One does not want to repeat the same mistakes which were made prior to or during the boom phase. What is positive is that there is a lot of interest in art, and there are many collectors and buyers who would like to invest in art. Yet, there is a slight hesitance due to past experience , which may not have been pleasant.

One of the best ways to go about it is to empower yourself to be able to make the right judgment about artworks, artists and prices. Therefore, it only makes sense to learn more about how the art market functions, the factors that influence and affect prices, how to choose the right gallery to buy from and most importantly , how to ensure that what you are buying is at the fair market price.

One of the things that were very common a few years ago was the trend that prospective buyers, essentially young professionals with disposable income, would approach art galleries with a specific amount of say, Rs 5-10 lakhs and request them to suggest artists or to even create a portfolio. The drawback with such an idea is that although a gallery of repute would ensure that your money is invested safely with appropriate buyback options, flyby-night operators would be bound to take advantage of such an offer.

Today, it would be wiser to either approach established, reputed galleries or professionals, or to research as much as possible before buying. This way, the responsibility of decision-making is in your hands, which is not only prudent but also enhances your involvement in the whole process.

To continue the exhibition series, 'Aspects of Contemporary German Photography', the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen now presents this show (curator: Ute Eskildsen) of German photo art from the 1990s. The title of the exhibition, 'Real Space Conceptual Space', subsumes three different working methods, the common content denominator of which is public space.

Real Space - Conceptual Space, an exhibition of the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen e.V. (ifa)/Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations, opens on March 11, 2011 at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath and continues till March 27, 2011. We are proud to welcome Heidi Specker, one of the artists featured in the exhibition, to Bangalore. Charlotte Salomon was born in Berlin in 1917 and grew up in a well-integrated Jewish family, the daughter of a surgeon and a singer, as a. The events in 1933 dramatically changed the life of the family and in 1939 Charlotte fled to her grandparents in southern France. In 1943 she was arrested by the Gestapo and deported to Auschwitz, where she was later killed little. Shortly before her arrest, she offered her work to a friend by saying, "C'est toute ma vie! This is my life! "life? Or Theater?

The 1325 gouache was painted between 1940 and 1942. In the despair and loneliness of exile projected Charlotte Salomon their lives in an imaginary inner stage, where she wrote her true story as a lyrical drama.

Of particular interest to students of German is the combination of Charlotte Salomon's personal history in pictures and brief written comments. The original exhibition is at the Jewish Historical Museum Amsterdam. The exhibition at the Goethe-Institut 62 shows gouache and comments.

The staff does send out invites on your behalf to all those on their mailing list, but I would urge you to send out your own invites - generally theirs reach after the preview or even after the show is over!

The EMDASH Award is a major opportunity for an emerging artist working outside the UK to realise a new work at Frieze Art Fair as part of the critically acclaimed Frieze Projects programme. The EMDASH Award is a major initiative in collaboration with Gasworks and supported by the EMDASH Foundation.

Entrance to the award is by open submission and the winner will be selected by an international panel of artists and curators. The winner will receive a commission to make a new work to be shown at Frieze Art Fair 2011, an artist’s fee, a production budget of £10,000 and a three-month residency at Gasworks in London. After the winning project has been presented at Frieze Art Fair, the EMDASH Foundation will enable a presentation of the winning artist’s work at Gallery Weekend Berlin 2012.

Proposals for work can take the form of site-specific installations; performance; film; video or print work. Applicants will be judged on the innovative nature of their proposal and its suitability for realisation at Frieze Art Fair. The EMDASH Award is open to non-UK-based artists within five years of graduating from an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, or under 35 years of age.

The selection committee for 2011 is: Andrea Dibelius (EMDASH Foundation); Rowan Geddis (Residencies Co-ordinator, Gasworks); Sarah McCrory (Curator, Frieze Foundation); Simon Martin (artist); Janneke de Vries (Director of GAK Gesellschaft für Aktuelle Kunst, Bremen); Amelie von Wedel (EMDASH Foundation).

Opening on January 29th, 2011; exhibition continues to February 26th at A1 Neeti Bagh, New Delhi.

Nature Morte is pleased to present a solo exhibition of the New Delhi artist duo Thukral & Tagra. The exhibition continues from their 2007 solo exhibition (“Put It On,” Bose Pacia, New York) with a body of work that addresses the themes of safe sex practices and increased sexual activity among Indian youth, against the backdrop of traditional perceptions of sexuality and the increased representation of sexualized bodies within the Indian media landscape. With their characteristic use of pop culture imagery, graphic pizzazz, seductive colors, sardonic wit and insightful juxtapositions, Thukral & Tagra will address deadly serious subjects through a humorous façade, employing paintings, consumer products and sculptural installations in the mix.
